I'm still mystified by the manner in which he is able to hide the musical structure beneath the melody, such that you don't notice how time-signatures and keys change. Drop-dead amazing.

It was a tremendous honor to play with the Miami Symphony a couple weeks ago. Still recovering from the experience. What I absolutely didn't expect, however, is that I would (ever in my life) end up opening for El Puma... A couple pix from the performance below.

To simply say that Maestro Eduardo Marturet is a musical genius would be the understatement of the century - he is both an amazing composer and a genuinely remarkable conductor. Eduardo has kindly invited me back to play with the symphony again on the 22nd March. I listened back later to my overdub of the stunningly awesome symphony part that Maestro Eduardo Marturet had prepared. It flows beautifully, but only when off-beat timing is spot on. And counting doesn't help - just gotta feel it. Would I have liked to practice for another ~month to make sure my part is spotless? Yes. But the shape it's in right now is not half bad, and there is something quintessentially rock'n'roll about the occasional sloppy note...

As 2017 comes to a close, it's hard not to be overwhelmed by all the awesome times we had together as band this year. Simultaneously, however, the feeling is bittersweet, as we had to say goodbye our friend and bassist, Chris Rollins. Did he die? No, not quite - he moved to Alaska.

It's been about 1000 degrees in Pasadena for the last week. So we've been hiding away in the garage - just drinking and jamming. As a result, we'll have some new songs to play on the October 4th gig, for which we are stoked.

To our great dismay however, our brother Chris Rollins will be moving to Alaska immediately after the gig. So make sure to come out and sponsor his IPAs.

We continue to be in denial at the prospect of him leaving us for glaciers.
The Seventh Seasontag:theseventhseason.band,2005:Post/46661222017-04-10T20:31:13-07:002020-09-24T02:14:19-07:004 partsSometimes, 4 parts is simply not enough. In the meantime, practicing with just the three of us, I've noticed how remarkably hollow the sound is without him. Here is a pic of me and the two Chris's looking in different directions waiting for him to come back. We've been working on a bunch of new material (some written by me, some by Chris S.) as well as Hendrix // Doors covers. Peter Buhler also stopped by to fill in for Chris R. last week - was great to jam with him. Next show probably in early February. It sure is good to get back to jamming. It's not entirely clear what changes we might make to the setlist for the next show, but among other things we thought about adding "Stacy's Mom" to the arsenal. The Seventh Seasontag:theseventhseason.band,2005:Post/44184382016-10-13T16:39:36-07:002020-09-17T00:33:14-07:00T < 1 weekWe are less than a week away from the October 19th show at the Old Towne Pub. We all love that idea, and I think musically this song will work great in that specific portion of the show. At the same time, pretty much anyone with touring experience will tell you that 50% of the time, mid-set instrument changes result in technical disaster, unless you have a crew of roadies to back you up... So fingers crossed.
The Seventh Seasontag:theseventhseason.band,2005:Post/43328232016-08-19T10:44:29-07:002020-09-21T07:15:24-07:00Whispers
About a week ago, the audio interface in my home studio suffered a 2-inch fall. I really didn't think much of it... But last night, while listening to backing vocal tacks in solo mode, I noticed some coherent-ish noise in the background. I plugged in the condenser mic and turned up the gain on the pre-amp to discover a remarkable combination of two over-layed AM radio stations. Who knew that a combination of conservative talk show and mariachi music could result in such a staggering addition to our sound! :-)

Looks like there is quite a bit of re-recording to do...

KThe Seventh Seasontag:theseventhseason.band,2005:Post/43167362016-08-09T10:41:44-07:002020-09-26T08:54:29-07:00RecLast week, we couldn't decide on how to arrange a new song. So over the weekend, I spent some time screwing around in the studio trying to find the right feel for this thing. Then it spontaneously fell together. Excited, I sent the guys a screenshot of the recording, but forgot to attach the mp3. Felt pretty silly about it at first, but in retrospect, I don't see what's so hard about reconstructing the song from the waveforms....

- K
The Seventh Seasontag:theseventhseason.band,2005:Post/43082652016-08-03T11:50:43-07:002020-06-30T01:11:24-07:00SetlistWe spent some time last night trying to strike a balance between old and new material in our setlist.
